About
I’m Josh Jones. I work at the intersection of code, data, and marketing, helping teams build systems that are both useful and measurable.
Over the past ten years, I’ve worked in roles that span development, analytics, and digital strategy. I’ve helped agencies and brands solve tough problems with smart tools, clear thinking, and an eye for long-term value. My experience includes everything from building custom plugins to setting up scalable tracking frameworks and connecting messy data to real decisions.
What is Beyond the Build?
Beyond the Build is a blog about what happens after a project ships. It’s where I explore the thinking, tools, and systems that support modern digital work. The name reflects something simple: building is just the start. Real value comes from what happens next—how we measure, adapt, scale, and maintain the things we make.
I write for developers, marketers, analysts, and anyone else working in that in-between space where disciplines blur. Topics often include:
- Web development patterns, especially in WordPress
- Analytics and measurement strategy
- Tag management and custom tracking
- Using AI in practical, grounded ways
- Data workflow design for marketing teams
The goal is to keep things honest, focused, and useful. I’m here to share what works, what doesn’t, and what we should probably be thinking about next.
My Background
I’ve worked on cross-functional teams that needed more than just another tool. Whether I was writing code, leading implementation work, or mapping out strategy, I’ve always been drawn to the connective tissue—how all the moving parts fit together.
Some areas I’ve worked in:
- WordPress development
- Marketing and product analytics
- Tag management
- Data pipelines and automation
- Team enablement and documentation
I approach every project with a systems mindset. Clean execution is important, but so is making sure people can actually use what gets built.
